Recently, a tenant who has lived in the same state house for 13 years and over that time had a dog in the property without permission was forced to get rid of her dog
The key word in the news item is “without permission”.
The tenancy agreement is a legal contract between you and the landlord and lists all the important things to know about your tenancy and sets out what you and your landlord agrees to do.
Other things may be included that are specific to the particular tenancy, for example:
- how many people are allowed to live in the house or flat
- whether the tenants may sublet or assign (transfer) the tenancy to anyone else (but this does not prohibit the tenant from having flat mates or boarders)
- where cars may be parked
- whether the landlord will allow pets.
When you sign this contract, you can only change these conditions if you negotiate with the landlord.
Don’t expect the landlord to not notice if you attempt to change any of these conditions yourself.
Our team provides the interface between you and the landlord, we insist on regular communications with both of you, and we want to see you settled into a safe and comfortable home.
If you have issues, contact us and we will make every effort to get issues like this resolved.
